Welcome to Seaton Parish Council website, we hope you will find it both interesting and informative.
Seaton Parish Council covers the villages of Wassand and Catfoss as well as the village of Seaton.
Seaton:
Predominately a rural farming community 3 miles west of Hornsea, on the main road to Beverley. Largely a conservation area, Seaton lies within the "Catfoss Dyke" landscape where land-form is dominated by a gently sloping shallow valley through which the watercourse draining Hornsea Mere would once have run.
Its' population in its' estimated 183 houses is 390, made up of individual houses and terraced properties. There is open common land "The Common" on Breamer Lane with its' duck pond and seating area, a further common "Far Common"/"the triangle" on the route to Catfoss. Also Whinns' Common to the north of the village, once used by the poor to gather kindling.
Within the northern part of the conservation area are earthwork traces of the shrunken medieval village known in the Doomsday Book in AD 1086 as "Settum". Old English for farmstead near the lake, referring to its' close proximity to Hornsea Mere.
Also sited in Seaton is the Seaton and Sigglesthorne Village Hall. Popular for its entertainment, currently running an extremely popular Wednesday Night Line Dancing session, as well as offering an afternoon of tea-dancing to name but a few of the local events. The hall is also available to book privately for functions.
Seaton Chapel sits to the north of the village on the road out to Catfoss and holds regular worship on a Sunday afternoon.
En-route to the village sits the "Old School Room" currently unused, once part of the Wassand Estate. It was donated to the village by the late Strictland Constable family and used for many years as a "Mens' Club". Sadly no longer in use.
